EXAMINATION NOTICE
CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION OF
THE MUNICIPALITY OF NORRISTOWN
 
Forms required to be completed in order to apply for the position of ENTRY LEVEL FIREFIGHTER are available at the OFFICE OF THE MUNICIPAL ADMINISTRATOR, NORRISTOWN MUNICIPAL HALL, 235 E. AIRY STREET, NORRISTOWN, PA 19401. Applications may be picked up between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
 
COMPLETED APPLICATIONS MUST BE TURNED IN TO THE MUNICIPAL ADMINISTRATOR’S OFFICE PRIOR TO 3:00 P.M. ON MARCH 12, 2010. COMPLETED APPLICATIONS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A NON-REFUNDABLE CHECK ONLY, PAYABLE TO THE MUNICIPALITY OF NORRISTOWN, IN THE AMOUNT OF $35.00, TO COVER THE ADMINISTRATIVE COST OF THE TESTING.
 
Every applicant for any position in the Fire Department shall possess a diploma from an accredited high school or a graduate equivalency diploma. In addition, every applicant must be a United States citizen, 21 years of age by March 12, 2010, be physically and mentally fit to perform the full duties of a firefighter and, prior to appointment, possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Applicants must have served as a firefighter in a combination fire department, and must include with their completed Application a letter from their fire chief, on official department stationery, confirming the same. Applicants must be Pennsylvania State Certified as a level 1 Firefighter or equivalent and have an issued certification number in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 consensus standards (PROOF MUST BE PROVIDED); must possess a current certificate of completion from an approved training facility for Hazardous Materials Operations in accordance with the Nation Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 472 consensus standards (PROOF MUST BE PROVIDED); must have a certificate of completion from an approved training facility for Emergency Vehicle Operations Course – Fire Apparatus (PROOF MUST BE PROVIDED); and must have a certificate of completion from an approved training facility for Pump Operations Course (PROOF MUST BE PROVIDED).
 
A written examination will be held, at a date and time to be advised, at THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY FIRE ACADEMY, 1175 CONSHOHOCKEN ROAD, PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, PA. Other mandatory components of the test are an oral examination, a background check, a fitness test and a medical examination.
